A blogger from Novosibirsk has confessed to killing an activist in St. Petersburg, according to police reports. The confession was made by a young man named Alexander, who came to the police station in St. Petersburg early on September 17th. He claimed that the killing took place in an apartment on Nauchny Prospekt, where he lived with the victim.
Alexander stated that he and the victim had been drinking the previous night, and things went out of control when the victim allegedly forced him into having sex. In a fit of rage, Alexander grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim over 20 times. After the incident, he called a taxi and fled to Vyborg, a city near St. Petersburg.
Police officers who arrived at the apartment found the body of the victim, identified as Vitaly Ioffe, a 53-year-old activist known for his involvement in protests and picketing. The police also obtained a video in which Alexander confessed to the murder, accompanied by laughter in the background.
Upon questioning, Alexander revealed that he had chosen Vyborg as his destination without any specific reason. The police initially did not take him seriously and suggested that he call for an ambulance. Alexander, who identifies as a queer activist and goes by the name Yeshka, had traveled from Novosibirsk to St. Petersburg. He had previously been seen participating in pacifist communities and LGBTQ+ groups.
Authorities have arrested Alexander and are currently conducting further investigations into the case. The incident has shocked both the local community and activists across Russia.
