Emilia Pérez stars Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña, and Karla Sofía Gascón recently attended the ELLE Women in Hollywood event, where they discussed their new film. The event was held in partnership with Ralph Lauren, Harry Winston, and TikTok.
The three actresses spoke about the significance of the film and took a subtle dig at Project 2025, a conservative playbook for Donald Trump's second presidential term. Saldaña highlighted their Latina heritage and Gascon's identity as a trans woman, stating, "Look at all of us: Project 2025 chapters 1 through 3."
Saldaña also expressed gratitude towards their director, Jacques Audiard, for bringing Emilia Pérez to life and recognizing the importance of freedom, truth, and control over their bodies for all women. Gascon, who plays the role of the former cartel leader undergoing gender-affirming surgery, described working on the film as a dream and expressed hope for more films that embrace diversity and different stories.
Gomez, the last to speak, emphasized the power of a story that celebrates resilience and self-discovery. As women in the industry, she believes they have a responsibility to support and uplift each other and to tell stories that go beyond surface-level narratives. Gomez also expressed her admiration for her co-stars and the team behind the scenes, wishing them success in making history during award season.
